What is La Axarquia?
For those of you who still do not know this territory, the Axarquia is one of the nine regions in the province of Malaga. It was one of the last territories under Arab domination, so the architectural heritage is very rich in this area and leaves us incredible places to go. Etymologically, the word means “eastern part” in Arabic, according to its location. Natural park of the Sierras de Tejeda, Amijara and Alhama
The first stop is an area where three different mountain ranges come together and disappear into the Mediterranean, an extremely beautiful place to enjoy wonderful views. Hiking, relax, sports, climbing … Everything you can imagine can be done in this Natural Park. In addition, the camping or overnight area for motorhomes is highly recommended.
Arenas, Archez, Salares, Sedella y Canillas de Aceituno
This succession of small towns form a route of about 40km. You can see in them the passage of the Arabs through our country, among a landscape with olivse, almonds and vines. The arcades and minarets that dot the streets of these municipalities will take you back to an earlier time in history. We highly recommend visiting these places with a tour guide, in order to understand the magnitude, importance and elegance of all these elements.
Villanueva del Trabuco
Murals in its streets, the Mirador (viewpoint) de los Villares, the fountain of 100 pipes and Trabulea (a recreational and environmental education complex) are some of the recommended places in this area. In addition, many of them can be visited by foot with a short journey of about 2.5 km. The gastronomy of this area is also recommended, with the stone cooked meat, salmon and tuna specialties.
La Viñuela
From the Viñuela area, it is highly recommended that you visit the Reservoir. The neighbouring campsite has very good places to rest and the views are incredible, ideal for a few days of relax and disconnection from everyday life. In addition, you can take routes around the surrounding areas to get to know them and play sports.
Alfarnate
Its white houses and its Arabic ornamentation make the streets of this town an ideal place to get lost and wander. Surrounded by the mountains of Enmedio, Palomera and Jobo, La Ermita de la Virgen de Monsalud, Plaza del Ayuntamiento (Town Hall Square), El Mirador (viewpoint) del Santo Cristo, the Hermitage with the same name and the river that runs through the town are some of the points of interest that you cannot miss on your route with a motorhome.
